Established in 2009, the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT) at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada encompasses 5 Schools and Programs dedicated to the practice and scholarly study of the most compelling aspects of communication, art and technology today. Its vibrancy lies in the sheer range and diversity of its departments, but its unity lies in each of these departments' dedication to rigorous and imaginative intellectual inquiry, the highest standards of academic rigour, and the continuous expansion of knowledge through research, teaching, and creative production. FCAT prepares its students for their futures: students learn to think critically and creatively; communicate clearly and persuasively; and innovate, create, and collaborate in their chosen fields of practice. FCAT stands at the intersection of culture and technology, precisely where some of the most important and exciting developments are to be found.
The Office of the Dean is located in the Harbour Centre building in downtown Vancouver. Schools and Programs in the faculty are taught on all three SFU campuses, including Burnaby, Vancouver, and Surrey. The current Dean of FCAT is Aoife Mac Namara.
